Wearing gloves while sleeping (weird tip)
Published: Wed, 01/30/13
I got this weird tip today from Jedd Johnson who is a top level
grip competitor.
If you have wrist or hand pain from lifting he recommends that
you try wearing gloves when you sleep.
It's true I read this on page 81 of his new Fix My Wrist Pain
manual that he and Rick Kaselj just released.
It may sound strange, but it's common practice amongst Grip Sport
athletes to sleep with gloves on at night. The reason for this is
two-fold.
First off, most of us sleep 6 or more hours a night. This is a long time,
especially when you compare it to the amount of time spent training
with weights or doing stretching or mobility work.
Because of the duration of time spent sleeping is so long comparatively,
it is a prime period to target for increased recovery of the hand and
wrists.
Second, the gloves bring extra blood to the hands. This extra
circulation can be great for bringing in much needed nutrients that
repair tissues, as well as removing waste that needs to be exported from
the area.
Generally, loose gloves or mittens are used for this purposed, but they
may not reach the wrists very well. With that, the wiser choice might be
to wear a set of oven mitts to be bed or some sort of loose sleeve that
keeps the wrist covered, promoting blood flow into and out of extremities.
I haven't personally tried this yet, but Jedd has and loves it. He does it
for a short period of time and than gets out of it, but he's planning on
doing it again next time is wrist bugs him.
If you try this strange tip make sure the gloves or mitts should be lose so that
the blood flow gets in out easily.
