SHAWN'S INSPIRATIONAL TRANSFORMATION STORY

It all started when I finally hit a point of frustration.  I was sick and tired
of being overweight.

I weighed 250 pounds and it took its toll on me.  I remember skiing one day.

After dressing and putting on all my gear, I must have weighed close to
300 pounds.

It was a horrible day for me because I couldn't keep up with my friends.
I was wiped after the first run and my feet and legs were sore.

I remember sitting on the tables outside, watching my friends go up and
down the mountain, thinking to myself how wrong it was that I should be
sitting down trying to catch my breath after walking 20 feet in ski boots.

That day, the seed of change was planted.

I accepted responsibility for having to change myself.

I knew that nobody else was going to do this for me.

I then began to think about what I wanted.

I wanted to be thinner but still wanted to keep the muscular size I had
developed over the years.

I just wanted to lose all of the fat I had accumulated around my midsection.

So I wrote a list of 10 things I wanted to change about myself and about
my body.  Some of them would take some work and some of them were
impossible.

I think I even wrote that I wanted to be taller.

However, I made my list and soon after making it, I put it away in a drawer.

I didn't go back to it for a week.

When I realized that I had made the list but hid it, I pulled it out and looked
over it again.

Everything on that list still mattered to me.  At that point I made the decision
to change.

I had the proverbial "Now or Never" realization.

So I went outside and began running.  I think I made it around the block
before I was too winded to continue.

But it felt good.  It felt like I had taken the first step in changing my body
and my life.

Over the next 8 weeks I became obsessed with uncovering everything I
could to help me get the body I wanted.

I read, read, and then read some more.

I read about weight training, I read about nutrition, I read about psychology
and behavior.  As I read I began putting what I read into action.

I began reducing my calories a little at a time.

I got rid of butter, high-cal dressings, mayonnaise, and sugar.

I started jogging twice a week and lifting weights on opposite days.

In the past I used to put my lifting ahead of my running and would only
run for five to ten minutes after my weight lifting workout.

I began to realize the importance of intense cardio in raising my metabolism.
I dedicated two days a week to it, 20 to 30 minutes each session.

I started to increase the amount of weight I was lifting. Before I would lift the
same amount each workout, but I learned it was more important to increase
the weight and decrease the number of reps.

Overall, my changes were pretty simple, in fact, I really didn't drastically
change anything.

But within 8 weeks of reading all of this information and using it, I
was a completely different person, physically and mentally.

I saw so many positive changes that it motivated me to keep going, to keep
pushing ahead.

I had gone from 250 pounds to just under 200 pounds, in 10 weeks.
People thought I was sick, but I felt absolutely great.

The change was drastic, yet I felt so good, so alive.

I now had the body I had always dreamed of. I had my six pack abs and
was under 10% body fat for the first time since grade school.

During the whole process, I critiqued how things were working.  If they weren't,
I stopped doing them and tried something else.

I uncovered those things that truly worked and did away with those things
that wasted my time.

I began to see that certain things I had changed would have to remain that
way for good if I wanted to continue having success.

For instance, I knew that I had to continue eating small meals or snacks
every 3 or 4 hours.

I knew that I would have to do cardio a couple times a week to stay thin.

But it was a lifestyle I was comfortable with and one that was not that
difficult to continue.

I often became afraid that the body I worked so hard for would be taken
away at any moment, but as I continued my physique kept getting better
and better.

My energy level was the highest it had been since I could remember.

My self esteem was high and my courage to try new things impressed me.

I started a new career as a personal trainer and soon was teaching others
how to positively change their bodies.

I had come full circle, from a place of despair and frustration to a place
where I could now help others with their own battles.

I soon knew that it was my calling to help others with the same issues that
had plagued me for so long.

During the whole time I was attempting to lose weight, I often referred back
to a saying I read one day while browsing in a bookstore.

I was reading a Zig Ziglar book. Zig is a self-made success who gives
motivational speeches and writes books on selling and motivation.

I remember reading,

"Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve."

I reminded myself of this every time I was running or lifting and felt like stopping.

If I can do this, what else could I do?

Well, I still often refer back to that line while I am sweating it out at the gym
or jogging in 90 degree temperatures.

However, I have adapted that line to include one other part that I feel is
important in achieving your best body ever.  For me it is my formula for success.

CONCEIVE + BELIEVE + TAKE ACTION = ACHIEVE

Taking action is the secret ingredient that turns failure into success.

Conceive, believe, and take action and you can achieve anything you want .

Best wishes,

Shawn LeBrun
