Protein Bars and Power Pancakes

I've got one from the mail bag to share with you today...
Q. Hey Coach Westerdal! I am so sick and tired of all the protein bars
that are out on the market I could puke! The bars all taste basically the
same regardless of what the slick ads say.

Also I love pancakes and get them at the drive through at Mickey D's
every chance I get. I need to slam some protein when I am eating the
pancakes and do you think if I mixed some protein powder into the
syrup that would work?
A. First of all don't eat at Micky D's. Now about the protein supplement bars.
Now I do agree with you on the fact that they all seem about the same as far
as taste goes. I guess we should be thankful they have improved over what
was on the market 10 or so years ago.
When you ate the bars back then they'd get lodged in your throat and it would
take a gallon of milk to wash it down. Here's a protein bar recipe that you can
make at home. I've made these up a few times and it is darn hard not to want to
eat them all at one sitting.
The protein bar recipe is quick, basic and loaded with quality calories. If you're
a hard gainer like I used to be, you'll need all the calories you can get. Don't
worry about the fat content, the amount of calories you need to sustain growing
muscle will take care of it.

Ace Iron Man magazine photographer Mike Neveux once said a concoction
almost identical to this recipe, helped transform him from a skinny runt to a
formidable size. For about two years, wherever he went they (protein bars)
went - along with lots of milk!
Critical Protein Bars Recipe
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup honey
*1 cup Protein Powder
3 cups raw wheat germ
Mix it all together. (That's the only hard part! You can use your hands.)
Press into an oblong dish or pan - Tupperware is nice.
Put it into the fridge, then cut into bars.
*Any powder you prefer will be fine as long as it's easily digested - and it's tasty!!
Mixing protein powder in syrup! You really are dumber than dirt.

Critical Protein Power Pancakes
Critical Protein Power Pancakes
1 Cup whole wheat flour
1 ¼ cups milk
*1 ½ cup protein powder
2 Eggs
2 Tablespoons cooking oil
2 Tablespoons honey
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon sea salt
Sift the dry ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and beat until batter is smooth.
If not thin enough use more milk.
Heat griddle, grease for first pancake and as needed. Pour the batter from the
end of a large spoon. When edges are dry and the top is bubbly, turn and brown
the other side.
Makes about 1 dozen pancakes.
